Sydney Symphony Orchestra
Daniel Mendelow, served as the Principal Trumpet with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra from 1978-2011. Born in New York in 1954, he spent his early years in Pittsburgh, and studied with Frank Ostrowski of the Pittsburgh Symphony and attended Oberlin College Conservatory of Music, with Gene Young and Louis Davidson, graduating with Honors in 1976. He also attended Tanglewood and studied with Roger Voisin and Armando Ghitalla. Mendelow was a member of the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra and Israel Philharmonic before joining the Sydney Symphony Orchestra where he served as Principal Trumpet from 1978-2011. He has appeared as guest Principal Trumpet with the Melbourne, Queensland, West Australian and Tasmanian, and Canberra Symphony Orchestras, and as a featured soloist at the Australian Chamber Music Festival, and the Huntington Festival. Daniel was Professor of Trumpet at the Australian National University School of Music in Canberra from 1991 to 2010.
