Jordan Murray has established a career in many diverse areas of the music industry in Australia. Primarily known as a trombonist, Jordan has also developed a reputation as a composer & arranger.

Jordan grew up in Perth, Western Australia performing in both classical & jazz circles with WAYJO, WAYO, Perth Jazz Orchestra, WASO and AYO whilst studying and teaching at WAAPA. During his studies at WAAPA, Jordan spent a semester studying at Crane School of Music, SUNY with Mark Hartman, North Texas State University One O’clock Lab Band alumni, Brett Zvacek and performing with the Chamber Orchestra of Northern New York.

Woody Herman trombonist & Berklee faculty member Phil Wilson invited Jordan to study at Berklee College of Music, Boston, where he studied with Hal Crook, Tony Lada & Herb Pomeroy and was awarded the Slide Hampton award. Whilst in the USA, Jordan performed with Aretha Franklin and studied at Dave Liebman’s IASJ summer school, performing at the JVC Jazz Festival in New York.

Since moving to Melbourne in 1996, Jordan has performed with many local & international artists such as John Farnham, Tom Jones, Kylie Minogue, Kenny Rogers, Reba McIntyre, The Four Tops, The Temptations, The Miracles, Mary Wilson (The Supremes), Martha Reeves, Joss Stone, Ricky Lee Jones, Mavis Staples, Emanuel Jal, Jamie Cullum, Paul Grabowsky, Bernie McGann, Jamie Oehlers, Scott Tinkler, Ian Chaplin, Stephen Magnusson, Phil Slater, James Greening, Paul Williamson, Rob Burke, Geoff Hughes, Allan Browne, Paul Kelly, Kate Ceberano, Jimmy Barnes, MikeBrady, Delta Goodrem, Renee Geyer, Tina Areana, Tom Burlinson, Ross Wilson, Christine Anu, James Morrison, Kate Cebrano, Guy Sebastian, David Hobson, Melinda Schneider, David Campbell, The Cat Empire, Thirsty Merc, James Muller, The Australian Art Orchestra, The Black Arm Band, The Bennetts Lane Big Band, Barney McAll, John McAll, Billy Harper, Bobby Shew, Dennis Chambers, Greg Bissonette, Casey Scheuerell, Tony Gould, Dale Barlow, Roger Frampton, John Pochee, Josh Roseman, Jamie Oehlers’ Blowfish, Eugene Ball, Julien Wilson, Ronny Ferella.

Jordan currently performs with the Paul Grabowsky Sextet, Tamara Murphy’s Modular, The Tim Wilson Quartet, The North East Collective, John McAll’s Black Money, The B Sharp Big Band & Gianni Marinucci’s Birth of the Cool Nonet.

Jordan was a member of the group IshIsh that performed at the 2001 Umbria Jazz Festival & Finland’s Pori Jazz festival. Jordan was also a founding member of Sam Keevers’ Los Cabrones which held a 12 year residency at Melbourne’s famous music venue, The Night Cat.

Throughout his career Jordan has also taught extensively at institutions such as Monash University, VCA, NMIT, WAAPA, UTAS, Blackburn High School, Balwyn High School, Eltham High School, St Kevins College, Loreto Mandeville Hall, Strathmore Secondary College, Melbourne Youth Music, JazzNow, Wesley College, Methodist Ladies College & Christchurch Grammar School.
