MATT DEMPSEY

Assistant Principal Trumpet – Malaysian Symphony Orchestra

Former Principal Trumpet – Adelaide Symphony Orchestra 2010 – 2015

Matt began playing trumpet in the Hornsby Concert Band and the “Golden Kangaroos” Marching Band. From 1995 to 2006 he was a member of the SBS Radio & Television Youth Orchestra and the Australian Youth Wind Orchestra. In 2000 & 2001 he attended the National Music Camps and was a member of the Australian Youth Orchestra.

Matt went on to attend The Sydney Conservatorium of Music graduating with the Diploma of Music in 2002 studying under Paul Goodchild, and the Bachelor of Music (Performance) in 2008 studying under Andrew Evans. In 2007 he was the winner of the Conservatorium’s Student Concerto Competition, performing the Tomasi Trumpet Concerto with The SCM Orchestra. He was a member of the Sydney Sinfonia in 2000 & 2001, and has performed in orchestras for the Australian tours of The Royal Ballet (Covent Garden) and The Paris Opera Ballet. In 2008 he performed with The Czech National Symphony Orchestra for Andrea Bocelli’s Australian tour.

In 2010 Matt commenced work with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra holding the position of 2nd Trumpet, before winning the Principal Trumpet chair in the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra which he held from 2010 – 2015. He also worked with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, and as guest-principal trumpet with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria, and the Australian Opera & Ballet Orchestra (Sydney). He is currently Assistant Principal Trumpet in the Malaysian Symphony Orchestra.
